Marin City supermarket prepares to launch – Marin IJ Giuseppe Ricapito 3/4/24
A new store opening in Marin City will bring a neighborhood supermarket to a community that has long lacked one. The store at 150 Donahue St. will open at 7 a.m. Thursday, said Chantha Vath, one of the local owners. She said she hopes for 1,000 customers on opening day. Employees have been stocking the store with non-perishable dry goods, health items and pet food. Beginning Monday, perishable produce, meat and deli items will arrive. The couple used to own a Grocery Outlet in Fairfield but sold it when they moved to Marin City in May.

When I left San Francisco for Sausalito in the 1990s, I was primarily enticed by the coastal city’s proximity to vast open spaces and the dazzling vistas around almost every corner. What I soon discovered was that beneath its touristy façade is not only a food scene that does far more than cater to vacationers but also a deep sense of community cultivated by a slew of annual epicurean events, from a soup stroll and chili cook-off to a local beer, wine and spirits festival.
Next week’s inaugural Sausalito Restaurant Week from March 18 to 24 is the latest addition and offers the opportunity to experience Sausalito’s culinary range with special three-course dinner menus at a dozen of its restaurants ($55 to $75) plus a two-course lunch at a select few ($25 to $45). Some are also adding a $10 specialty cocktail made with gin, bourbon or rye from Sausalito Liquor Co.

If you came of drinking age in the 1990s, then you know the name Johnny Love — not the singer, but rather the barman. Johnny Love’s real name is Johnny Metheny, but it was his nickname that became the name of his famous pseudo-eponymous club on Polk Street. That late-night fixture led to two more, one in Walnut Creek and one in San Diego.... Metheny even started a vodka brand, in conjunction with Devotion Vodka, back in 2010 called Johnny Love Vodka. Sausalito has approved a new design for its ferry landing project after months of redesign and public uproar. The City Council approved a design review permit for the project in a unanimous vote on Tuesday. The recommended plan details a new landing plaza, provisions for pedestrians and cyclists to queue in the same direction, and widened walkways. Panoramic Highway to Operate on One Lane. Single lane traffic control to be in place at milepost 2.26 for about 2 months.
Starting Monday, January 29, Panoramic Highway will temporarily be reduced to a single lane at milepost 2.26, just south of the Mountain Home Inn, allowing for alternating two-way access controlled by a temporary traffic signal. The lane closure is required for construction of a retaining wall.Travelers between the Mount Tamalpais area and Stinson Beach should expect traffic delays of up to 10 minutes. Expedited access will always be provided for active emergency service vehicles. The single lane traffic control is expected to be in place through the end of March, but the duration could be extended if weather impacts the construction schedule.
The construction zone is a 700-foot stretch of road approximately 1.3 miles northwest of the intersection of Panoramic Highway, Sequoia Valley Road, and Muir Woods Road — locally known as Four Corners. That section of Panoramic Highway is a popular route with tourists visiting Mount Tamalpais State Park, Muir Wood National Monument, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Marin’s Pacific beaches.
The retaining wall is part of a slide repair project that began in November 2023. The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) is managing the slide repair project which involves installation of new retaining walls, guardrails, and pavement along Panoramic Highway. The damage was caused by a major storm in October 2021 that dumped 12 inches of rain on the mountain within a 24-hour period.

This Electric ‘Flying Water Taxi’ Might Soon Be Ferrying You to SFO – The San Francisco Standard Astrid Kane 1/18/24
The 4-year-old company (pronounced “NAV-ee-ay”) which builds its boats in Maine, has secured landing rights to Coyote Point Recreation Area, a park with a marina just south of San Francisco International Airport. From there, shuttles would drive passengers roughly 5 miles to the airport, addressing what’s known as the “last-mile problem.”
Navier is working to procure docking space from several points of origin in Marin County and the East Bay, focusing on waterfront areas that are far from a direct transit connection to SFO already.

Sausalito promotes police veteran to chief position – Marin IJ Cameron Macdonald 1/5/24
Sausalito officials have selected Stacie Gregory, a longtime member of the police department, as its next chief, City Manager Chris Zapata announced Friday. Gregory has been acting police chief since June 2022, when her predecessor, John Rohrbacher, went on medical leave. He retired on Christmas Eve. Gregory will assume her new role on Sunday, leading a department of about two dozen police employees and an annual budget of about $5 million.
